What happened during Dalila?

A tropical low that formed south of Manzanillo, Mexico on 28 June organized into Tropical Depression Dalila on 29 June 2013 about 415 nautical miles south of Manzanillo. The system became a tropical storm early on 30 June and moved generally northwestward parallel to the southwestern coast of Mexico. Dalila strengthened into a hurricane by 1200 UTC 2 July, moved slowly on a cusp-like track and then turned southwestward on 3 July, weakened to a tropical storm that day, became a depression on 5 July, and degenerated to a remnant low early on 7 July about 400 nautical miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas. The remnant low dissipated after 18 UTC 8 July.

Dalila remained well offshore of the Mexican coast and did not make any landfalls.

Dalila’s peak intensity occurred at 1800 UTC 2 July with maximum sustained winds of 70 knots (about 80 mph) and a minimum central pressure of 984 mb. At peak it was a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir–Simpson scale.

No storm surge impacts or official coastal surge measurements are reported in the record, and there were no reports of rainfall totals tied to Dalila at Mexican cities or counties in the report. Similarly, no ship reports of tropical-storm-force winds were received.

There were no reported deaths or damage associated with Dalila. Forecasters noted that the storm’s formation was well anticipated, and the National Hurricane Center’s track and intensity forecasts for Dalila had lower-than-average errors compared with recent five-year means; a special advisory was issued when Dalila unexpectedly reached hurricane strength on 2 July.

County-specific summary Paid feature

Paid members can generate summaries tailored to the counties of their choice. The Dalila TCR covers impacts across many counties and states — a Pinellas County resident doesn't need the Asheville detail, and a Buncombe County resident doesn't need the Tampa surge data.
